Q:
What to do about a kids bedroom with no door?
I have currently moved to save money. My 10 year old daughter and I have a full basement to ourselves. The part that is considered the living room area is her room. I want to make it as homey as possible on a budget. She is asking for beanbags and for the color scheme to be bright colors. The biggest concern I have is she doesn’t have a door. I have been searching for some sort of divider. Can you give me any suggestions?

Thanks for your question. What about tall secondhand bookcases or hanging a curtain from the ceiling? That is provided it is okay to use some screw hooks and heavy wire or dowelling from which to hang a curtain (one that already has holes e.g. like a fabric shower curtain). Paneled room dividers on hinges may be an option. Do you happen to have a used building supply store close by where you could find some closet shutters you could repurpose as a room divider (just add extra hinges)? Another thought would be office cubicle dividers from a used office supply store.

Q:
Do you know who can design a room by me giving the measurements and the items to go inside?

Thanks for your question. Are you familiar with http://us.mydeco.com/design/ ? If not, you may want to give it a try. Lisa Kelsey, the Art Director over at Family Circle magazine swears by it as a way to design an entire room in 3-D using either images from its database or images you as a user can upload. If you need a little inspiration, you can also pursue other people’s projects.
