BLUE AND YELLOW BOYS ROOM
Q:
My son wants a bright yellow and blue room. The room is not very big, and there is one window that lets in a decent amount of light. Should I paint blue on the bottom and yellow on top, or maybe 1-2 walls of one color and 2-3 walls another color? He has the CARS theme and the curtains/bedding are mostly blue, but no yellow. The only yellow are the glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling and then a very dark yellow on just a bit of the bedding. Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks for your question. Considering your son’s room is not very big, I think painting blue on the bottom half or 2/3 of the wall and yellow on the top is the best idea. Even though there is a window that lets in a decent amount of light, too much blue may make the room seem even smaller and one or two walls in bright yellow given the rest of the curtains and bedding would probably result in too much yellow.

Blue star bedding?
I have been looking for comforters or quilt covers preferably pale blue or pale green with stars on them, either in the print or appliqued on. I have been looking around but to no avail. Can you help please? Thanks.

Thanks for your question. I agree it’s hard to come up with a nice comforter or quilt cover with stars. Not sure of the size of bedding you want but I did find a nice ‘stars’ twin comforter cover from The Land of Nod that might work. It is available in full/queen as well. There’s also a nice blue stars twin quilt on Amazon that may interest you. Hope one of these star bedding options are of interest.

Boys room decor ideas needed for a monster truck bedroom
My husband just purchased monster truck bedding for our 3 year old’s “big boy” room. I’m stumped though as to boys room decor accessories. The room is has three red walls and one that’s dark blue so I’d love to find monster truck bedroom decorations that will match. The furniture is a dark wood. Any ideas would be awesome! Thanks.

A monster truck bedroom is a great idea for a toddler. A monster truck theme will probably be of interest for many years to come. Some of my favorite ways to bring a bedroom theme together like this one is by using boys room decor accessories like a monster truck sign (above), posters, wall decals, drawer knobs, a ceiling fan pull etc.

HOCKEY BEDROOM IDEAS

I have a son who is tired of his dinosaurs and wants a black room. He tends to be very emotional and seems to be dealing with depression so I want to talk him into something else but, I want him to like it. So, I’m looking for ways to incorporate black on the walls. He also loves to shoot air soft guns, so something like a hunting ground might get him off the black. Other things he’s into are futsal (indoor soccer), and hockey. I don’t think a soccer room would interest him any. Wow, “talking” this out really helps! I’m going to see about the hunting or hockey ideas. If I did something like black row of paint on the bottom of the walls (maybe two feet high), then a row of jungle/forest/prairie… Or, on top of the black, do a forest green and make a large jungle/forest/praire mural or large rectangle that takes up most of the green… I don’t know. Money is an issue but I’m not worried about the next decorating go-round (meaning that I don’t care if the next time I go to paint I have to paint extra layers). OH, my son is a pre-teen (12).
