Make His Room “Go”
Little boys love things that go. Trucks, trains, heavy machinery; anything that gives that feeling of powerful movement makes their eyes light up and their smile broaden. Design a bedroom for your boy that will make his room as active as his imagination.
Begin your project by selecting a theme to focus on. This may be an individual type of automobile, construction or farm equipment, or trains. You know your child so do not let anyone else tell you it will not work. Nearly any theme can be managed or even updated with a little bit of creativity. Once you know what theme you are going to focus on it will be easier to select a color scheme.
If you are using a specific manufacturer base your color scheme around the colors they commonly use. This is very simple. Purchase a toy or an accessory that will be used in the room later and have the paint on that toy matched by a paint store. If you are going to use a toy as a focal point then be sure this is the toy you take your color scheme from.
Consider having a picture of this toy put on to an area rug as well. The presence of the toy will help to bring unity to your design and the area rug will be quite useful. Area rugs are easy to clean and offer protection not only to you floor, but also your child. When children play on the floor it can expose them to germs and drafty cool air an area rug will help to prevent this by trapping dirt and germ and provides insulation from drafts. An area rug also helps to provide insulation from noise.
As with any bedroom the bed will be highly important. Many companies make beds that are shaped like automobiles and other heavy machinery. If a bed like this is not in your budget you can achieve the same effect by creating side rails out of plywood in the shape of the machine you desire. Draw these on to your plywood, cut out, paint, and mount to the bed frame. If you do not believe you are talented enough to achieve this on your own contact the wood shop teacher at the local high school and offer a donation in exchange for the work. You will save money on the project and the program will receive much needed funds.
Another good addition is a play table. Purchase a small folding table and design a small city or work site for your child to use his toy vehicles on. A play table like this offers opportunity for imagination and learning. He will love this addition and you will love the hours of quiet play it inspires. If there is not room for this find an area rug with a city, train track, or worksite design on it. Many of these are available and they offer an equal amount of creative play.
We all want to give our kids the best of everything and when the project is this easy there is no need to wait. Go to his toy box today and make his room go!
